| A Syntopy Installation in two places: Tel Aviv and Cologne. KRAFTZELLEN 100.
We are planning an art campaign to celebrate the centennial of Tel Aviv which is to take place in Cologne and also in Tel Aviv.
On the one hand there will be a two part wedge-shaped sculpture; one part to be erected in the harbour of Cologne, one in the harbour of Tel Aviv. Both wedges will appear to be floating above the water.
The yellow wedge in Cologne is to focus the viewer’s gaze on the city of Tel Aviv, which was founded in April 1909 as a humble garden suburb of Yafo. However, Tel Aviv, the first “modern Hebrew city” soon became a symbol of the Zionist hope, which accompanied many immigrants from Europe who came to Palestine in the 1920s and 1930s.
The blue wedge in Tel Aviv is the mirror-image, pointing towards Europe (Cologne)
If merged the two parts of the sculpture would form a Star of David.
On the other hand the integration of young people will form an integral part of this art campaign. In the course of the campaign, they will reflect upon history and develop their own vision of the future; to be visualised and welded into 2 capsules as power cell bundles. The aim is to make the content of the capsules into an aural experience as well, whereby the spoken words of the individual participants in the campaign can be heard.
The power cells are like a driving force within the wedges and allow for the movement of the 2 wedges towards each other.
his project reflects the connection between different places, worlds and cultures and adds to the main idea of syntopy.
